From Despair to Bliss: Testimonies of Baba’s Boundless Compassion

Om Shree Sai Ram

Lord Shree Sanjay Sai Baba is my guide, my parent, my kin, and my friend. In my life, there is His boundless grace. Whatever I am today, wherever I stand, it is only due to His divine blessings.

We were six women working together in the same office. Among us, Soni always talked about Baba—“Baba did this.. Baba did that”—sharing stories of His miracles. After hearing her so often, Shashi and I decided, “We should go meet Soni’s Baba.” At that time, Baba was staying at Rukmini Sai Ram’s house.

During our office lunch break, we went there. On a white sheet spread upon the bed, Baba was lying like Lord Vishnu Himself—a divine sight that made our hands fold in reverence automatically. Baba welcomed us as if He already knew us: “Oh, you have come. Come, sit.” We sat beside Him. After a while, we bowed and asked permission to leave. Baba placed His hand upon our heads. The bliss we felt was heavenly—indescribable, unforgettable.

We began attending bhajans at Rukmini Sai Ram’s home. During bhajans, Baba would walk around, sometimes placing His hand on our heads, sometimes creating vibhuti (sacred ash), sometimes giving lockets to devotees. We watched these creations with amazement, wondering how they could have appeared.

From then on, every day during our lunch break we inquired about Baba’s whereabouts and went to see Him—sometimes at Shanta Sai Ram’s home, sometimes at Kamala Sai Ram’s. In this way, we gradually drew closer to Baba. One day, Baba declared, “Now the mission must begin.”

The mission started at Mukti Nepal Children’s Home. The orphan children there were in miserable condition—sick, lacking proper food, lacking cleanliness. When Baba visited, we also began going there. We sang bhajans, cleaned, cared for the children. Gradually, they improved. The first Buddha Jayanti program began from there. Baba performed many divine leelas—creating vibhuti, sacred objects, even sacred water Ganga-jal from His hand. After programs, when we were tired, Baba would say, “Sit.” He would place His hand on our heads, filling us with divine bliss.

Later, an ashram was established at Shankhamul, Baneshwor in Kathmandu, and regular programs began.

In 2062 BS (2005 AD), Shashi Sai Ram’s daughter Shaibya passed her SLC exams. Shashi and I took her to the ashram for Baba’s darshan. Baba blessed her, gave her vibhuti. He created a maroon crystal necklace and gave it to me! I was astonished—we had brought Shaibya for darshan, yet Baba created a necklace for me. At that time, Baba’s mission was just beginning; He was younger than my son.

Another incident occurred during the Maoist conflict, when there were frequent strikes. My husband and I planned to visit Dhankuta, Eastern Nepal. I asked Baba’s permission: “Baba, my husband and I are going to Dhankuta, my sister’s son has invited us.” Baba said, “Do not go to the plains (Terai), if it is hills, then only go.

That day, Baba created a ring with a purple stone and gave it to me, saying, “If you face any hardship, hold this ring and remember me.”

We traveled safely. From there, we also visited Fikkal and Darjeeling. While returning from Darjeeling, we had to stay overnight in Fikkal as a strike had begun, and there were no vehicles except ours. My husband—who had a habit of drinking—fell asleep. Suddenly, a dreadful sound broke the silence, as if his very life were departing. I was terrified. I shook him, but there was no response. In desperation, I remembered Baba’s words. Clasping the ring tightly, I prayed: Baba, I place my husband’s life at Your feet. You blessed me when I left; now please protect him. In this unfamiliar place, I am alone and know no one.

After about an hour, he began to show faint signs of breathing. I moved him gently, and slowly he responded. My heart overflowed with gratitude.

Meanwhile, back in the Ashram, during the Saturday bhajan, Baba suddenly went into trance and began vomiting heavily. According to Shashi Sai Ram, the vomit carried the smell of alcohol. Baba said, ‘How much sorrow Satya’s husband has given me’. When Shashi Sairam asked, But Baba, he is not here,” Baba replied, He had drunk alcohol and was about to suffer a major heart attack. To save him, I had to take this upon myself.

Baba became deeply restless, then collapsed onto the bed, drenched in sweat.

Afterwards, Baba called everyone—Shashi, Kumud, Soni, Purnima, Indra, and Kamala—and instructed: Until Satya’s husband returns, establish a Shiva Lingam, perform continuous water abhishek upon it, and keep chanting the Mahamrityunjaya mantra.

Next Sunday, I returned to Kathmandu. At that time, we could still contact Baba directly. I phoned Baba and humbly inquired, ‘Baba, are You keeping well?’”

Baba replied, “It’s alright, though I am not fully well. Did you learn anything? Did Shashi or the others tell you?”

I answered, No, Baba, I haven’t spoken to anyone yet. I called You directly to ask about You. Baba then said, Come tomorrow.

The following day, Monday, I went to the ashram. There, I saw that a Shiva Lingam had already been established in the jalhari (sanctum). When I arrived, Baba said, “Oh, you have come. Now remove it with your own hands.

Afterwards, Shashi Sai Ram narrated the whole episode to me in detail.

After such incidents, how would I not believe Baba is God? Without divine power, such things are impossible. Baba truly gave my husband back his life.

Such experiences are innumerable. For me, whether as God, friend, guide, or even as parents, relatives, and companion—Baba is everything.

Once I faced such a situation that I even left my home. At the Ashram in Shankhamul, Satyanarayan Puja was being performed. The day before, at home, the atmosphere had become so tense that my husband said, Choose—either me or your Baba.

That night I cried endlessly and prayed to Baba: Baba, I am in such a situation now that I must make a decision. I have not knowingly or unknowingly committed any sin. I have chosen the path of God, and I do not feel I have done anything wrong.

The Next morning, I told my husband, My bond with God is eternal, while my bond with you is only recent. I choose God.

I left home and went to the Ashram. After the Satyanarayan Puja, I fell at Baba’s feet and wept so much that Baba asked, Satya, what has happened to you?

I said, Baba, today I have to choose one — either leave my home or leave You. Immediately, Baba called Shashi Sai Ram and said, First, give Satya the prasadam.” Then Baba placed half a coconut in my hand and instructed: Give this coconut to your husband to eat. You need not leave your husband, nor leave me. Baba placed His hand upon my head. He informed Shashi Sairam that my husband loved coconut, that was something I had never known before.

When I returned home with the prasadam, the atmosphere was calm. My husband was sitting quietly. I offered him the coconut, and without saying a word, he ate it peacefully. What a miracle!

Even now, whenever Swamy speaks playfully, I say, Baba, I had left my home and come to You, but it was You who sent me back. Then, Baba gently replies, How could I ever destroy your home?

Thus, in my life, there are countless experiences of the omnipresent, omnipotent, all-knowing Lord Shree Sanjay Sai Baba.

May Baba’s glory be eternal.
