In the Divine Radiance of Bhagawan Shree Sanjay Sai Baba: Testimonies of Love and Miracles
First Darshan and Baba’s Leela
In Chaitra 2060 BS (April 2004), at Shankhamul, Kathmandu, a special program was held to inaugurate Purnima Sairam’s shop—selling vibhuti, photos, and bhajan cassettes—by Baba’s divine hands. Sujata Didi invited me to attend. I wonder – there was Parthi Baba, and here Sanjay Sai Baba—what was this all about? Still, I took half a day’s leave from the office and went there. In front of the shop stood the women devotees—Kamala, Shanta, Sujata, Kalpana, and Purnima—waiting reverently for Baba’s arrival.
Baba arrived—a radiant youth of about seventeen, dressed in a simple white kurta-pajama. Everyone bowed reverently at his feet. I too bent down—and what a wonder! In Baba’s feet I beheld the darshan of Parthi Sai’s feet. When Baba placed his hand upon my head, tears streamed down, unstoppable. I tried to wipe them away quietly, but He looked at me with a gentle smile. After the inauguration, as Baba was leaving, He once again placed His hand on my head, and instantly the tears ceased. In that moment, I was convinced – Baba is truly God incarnate.
The next day at the office, Shashi, Kumud, and Satya Sairam asked me what had happened. I narrated everything in detail and said, “Baba is indeed God Himself.” But they did not believe me; instead, they remarked, “One should not bow to just anyone’s feet.”
From then on, I began going daily at lunchtime for Baba’s darshan. Baba himself would call before 1:45 pm, saying: “Soni, isn’t it time for you to come?” It became my routine to visit him every day at that hour. Even my colleagues began teasing me, saying: “Now it’s time for Soni Ji’s phone call!”
At that time, Baba was staying at Rukmini Sairam’s house in Shankhamul. On Thursdays and Saturdays, bhajans were held at devotees’ homes in Shankhamool and New Road, and Baba would graciously attend—singing bhajans, playing the dafli (hand drum). I began participating regularly— during office hours I left children in my mother’s care, while on holidays I would take them along. By the time we returned at night, darkness had already fallen.
Baba’s Wonderful Leela
One day, during a bhajan, Baba was seated inside on a chair. Nearby was a photo of Parthi Sai. As I gazed at the photo, I suddenly beheld the vision of Sanjay Sai Baba, and then Lord Krishna appeared, playing joyfully. I went inside and saw Swami seated majestically on the chair. Looking again at the photo, Baba’s image shone forth, and again the little Krishna appeared.
At that time, I was burdened with constant tension, day, and night. Pouring out my sorrows silently before the photo, I felt an overwhelming moment of grace. Suddenly, Baba came and held my hand—what a soft, tender touch! Tears flowed in torrents. Then Baba placed His hand upon my head, and instantly the tears ceased. All my tension vanished, replaced by a flood of bliss.
Baba’s Visit at Home
One day, I prayed, “Baba, please come to my home as well.” Baba graciously agreed. The very next day, my husband brought Baba. I lit the lamp, offered flowers at His feet, and performed pooja. Baba stayed for thirty minutes. Later, my husband again escorted Him back.
On another occasion, while the children were performing puja, Baba appeared at the door, dressed in a white kurta-pajama. He smiled gently and then departed. No one else saw Him—only I did.
Thus, Baba blessed my home with His divine presence twice.
Healing and Gift of Life
When my little daughter was ill, Swami instructed: “Chant Om three times over water, mix it with vibhuti, and give it to her.” When I experienced chest pain, He lovingly told me to apply vibhuti.
In the month of Mangsir, 2061 (December 2004), one day while preparing for office, my vision suddenly blurred, and I collapsed against the wall. I called out “Baba…” and my husband rushed to me—though in my heart I had invoked Sanjay Sai Baba. I have the habit of constantly chanting “Om Shree Sanjay Sai Baba”—whether going to office or riding in a vehicle or walking.
In that moment, I lost consciousness. My body would not move, yet my lips continued to chant “Om Shree Sanjay Sai Baba.” There was no sound, only the movement of my mouth. I could hear my daughters asking, “What happened to Mom?” but I could not move my hands, feet, or body. I was aware when my eldest daughter, seeing my dry lips, brought a glass of water and moistened them.
I suddenly felt a deep, chilling sensation in my left chest. In that moment I thought, “Oh! I haven’t had water or food—why am I feeling this cold, Sanjay Baba?” By 4 p.m., I began to feel a little better. My husband asked, “What happened? Do you feel pain anywhere?” My voice was weak, but I replied, “No pain.”
The next morning, around 9 a.m., I went to bathe, but when I removed my inner garment, it was soaked in blood! I realized Baba Himself had performed surgery on my heart and cured me. I quickly called Sujata Didi, asking her to come at once, saying I had something to show her. I narrated the incident and showed her the blood on my body and clothes. She was astonished and told me, “At that very time, Sanjay Baba suddenly fainted and was taken to the hospital. Shanta diju and others have all gone there.”
Oh! Baba had taken my illness upon Himself and granted me life!
O Supreme Father, Supreme Soul—how can I ever comprehend Your divine leela? Baba’s face appeared vividly before my eyes. Longing for His darshan, I requested Didi to take me to Him. We both skipped office and went to the bhajan hall at New Road. I pleaded with Baba, “Was it You who did this for me? Are You also unwell?” Baba said nothing—He only smiled gently. Later, He explained that He had some chest pain and so had gone to the hospital.
Thus, Baba took my heart attack upon Himself and bestowed life upon me.
Friends’ Experience
When I shared my experiences with Shashi, Kumud, and Satya Sairam at the office, they did not believe me. Once, Baba Himself prepared parathas and asked me to feed my colleagues at the office. The next day, He told me to call them as well.
About a year and a half after I came into Swami’s fold, they finally went for His darshan. At that very first encounter, they were blessed with a profound experience. Returning joyfully, they exclaimed together in one voice: “Soni, we were mistaken not to believe you. Today our fortune has blossomed—Baba is truly God incarnate.”
From the very next day onwards, all four of us would hasten from the office before 2 p.m. to receive Baba’s darshan. Around 2 p.m., sometimes the fragrance of vibhuti would fill the air, sometimes the fragrance of flowers. In those sacred moments, we felt Baba’s presence, as though He Himself had arrived and was lovingly calling us.
Divine Journey to Puttaparthi
In the year 2061 (2005), during the month of Chaitra, the plan arose to visit Puttaparthi. I told Swami that my husband would not allow me. Swami gently said, “Ask him once.” To my surprise, when I mentioned it at home with some fear, he agreed. Leaving my little daughter behind, I set out with Baba to Puttaparthi—and there I experienced a heavenly bliss unlike anything I had ever known before.
At Puttaparthi, Swami said, “In time, our own ashram will be established. From a distance, you will behold Me in a smaller form.”
At night, we all slept together in one room, while Baba rested inside, behind a curtain. In night, He spoke continuously in a language unfamiliar to us. In the morning, when we asked, we came to know that He had been in divine dialogue with Sathya Sai Baba—in Telugu.
One day Baba told me: “You have served Me greatly as a cashier.” Then, with a wave of His hand, He manifested a small idol of Lord Bal Gopal and gave it to me, instructing that I should worship it at home and offer milk. One evening, from the waters of the Chitravathi River, He manifested a Lord Tirupati idol and gifted it to me, saying: “Lord Narayana has come to your home; now Lakshmi too will arrive.”
Thus, I was blessed with the opportunity to spend 19 days in divine bliss with Baba.
Difficult Circumstances and Baba’s Grace
At that time, my life was very difficult. Yet whenever I remembered Baba, the fragrance of vibhuti would arise, His shadow would appear, and His voice would be heard. Sometimes Baba would look from the doorway and then vanish.
Later, a house was rented in Shankhamul to begin the ashram. Since the rent had to be paid, everyone contributed. Kumud Sairam suggested an amount of 500 each, and Baba agreed. I was standing near Baba’s chair, gently fanning Him, I silently prayed: “Baba, 500 is too difficult for me; if I could give 200 instead.” At that very moment, Baba spoke aloud: “Kumud, take only 200 from Soni.”
Tears filled my eyes. Baba always heard my prayers instantly and responded with boundless compassion.
Divine Vision and Miracle
Once, Sujata Didi’s son—whom I love dearly, just like my own child—fell ill in America. I had not been informed. One night, in my sleep, I saw him lying on a hospital bed, dressed in hospital clothes. The next morning, when I called Didi, I learned that he had in fact been admitted to the hospital three days earlier. I was stunned. They told me he had taken a drink, fallen asleep, and had not woken up.
I immediately went to Didi’s place. There was a large photo of Sanjay Sai Baba. With tears streaming from my eyes, I stood before the photo and prayed earnestly: “Baba, the boy has fallen gravely ill. You are our sole refuge. Already, relatives criticize us whenever we go to the ashram. If something happens to him, their words will be even harsher. Baba, please save him—at any cost.”
When I returned home, I had no desire to eat or sleep. Suddenly, the fragrance of vibhuti filled the house. I felt assured—Baba has protected him. Then the fragrance of flowers arose.
The next evening, after finishing my chanting, I sat with eyes closed, remembering Baba. In my vision, I saw the hospital bed, the boy lying in hospital clothes, with medicines and fruits placed in a rack beside him. Baba appeared in white cloth, stood before the boy, bent down, and whispered into his ear. Then Baba withdrew. Soon, Poornima Sairam appeared, placed her hands on the boy’s head, touched his face gently, and then departed. After that, Lord Surya Narayan appeared, shining light upon the boy’s chest.
What a divine vision it was—it was exactly 9 p.m. I was astonished and immediately called Didi, narrating what I had seen, and told her not to worry. Two days later, the boy recovered and was discharged from the hospital.
Thus, through Baba’s grace, a miracle unfolded in our lives.
Conclusion
Thus, from my very first darshan to continuous experiences, Baba’s leela has been boundless. Many challenges came into my life—tears, tension, illness—but Baba, with His infinite compassion and grace, removed them all. Baba is ever with me. Baba is my very life. Baba dwells eternally within my soul.
